Llama manure–known as llama beans–is a natural high nutrient fertilizer that is odor-free, which makes it a great choice for amending indoor plants. Simply place the beans in potted plants and cover lightly with soil. Over time, the beans will break down and release a broad-spectrum of nutrients with watering.
Llamas are modified ruminants and have a uniquely efficient digestive system. Their food is re-chewed and passes through three compartments of their stomachs. This process breaks down almost all of the organic content they have ingested, including any weed seeds. What remains is a nutrient-rich fertilizer in the form of bean-like pellets that are surprisingly small for the animal’s size. It is considered a ‘cold’ fertilizer and is less likely to ‘burn’ plants like other, more readily available, animal manures.
